INT. PAWN SHOP, DAY

JAMIE, a rich well-dressed young male, aged 34, takes a casual trip to his local pawn shop. JAMIE is on a mission to collect abnormal antiques to add to his collection. Whilst browsing around the premises JAMIE collides with an estranged scraggy rough living homeless guy.

JAMIE

Sorry mate, are you alright?

ALBERT doesn't respond and swiftly disappears out of the shop, not realising he has dropped his dog tags, in which he was originally going to trade. Jamie realises that Albert has left behind his dog tags and picks them up, expecting to return them but to his surprise Albert has already left the shop and is out of sight. Whilst scanning the tags for any significant detail Jamie comes across an engraving reading

 ‘With all my love,Dad.’ (16/11/1985)

A moment of pause is taken by Jamie, as a tear draws from his eye. He reaches for his neck and tugs at his dog tags. A thought bubbles appears reading…

2+2=……
Rich Guy + Poor Guy=…..
Tag+ Tag = BROTHERS??!!!!

Putting the two together Jamie recognises that this was the other half of his set of dog tags, and as they were given to him and his brother when their father passed away, he realises that the homeless guy, Albert, was his brother. Astounded by his findings Jamie rushes out the shop to find Albert.

EXT. ROAD, NIGHT

As time fly by evening occurs and there is still no sighting of Albert. Jamie finds himself parked on a street bench collecting his thoughts and setting himself the task of finding Albert as soon as possible, yet still going about his day to day life. As this takes places another thought bubble is shown reading..

Hmmm…..

The screen fades out via the use of special effects.

A montage sequence is then shown, portraying JAMIE’S journey to find Albert. The montage consists of the park, the market area and an ordinary road.

EXT. PARK, DAY

The park is the primary stage of the montage. JAMIE is strolling through the park on his way to work, continuously on the lookout for the sighting of his long lost brother. Convinced he is not around JAMIE exists the park, whilst a glimpse of ALBERT is shown in the same location sitting on a bench dazing at the sky moments after.

ANIMATION IS USED TO SHOW THE JOURNEY FROM THE PARK TO THE MARKET.

EXT. BARKING MARKET, DAY

Barking market is the second stage of the montage. Running for the bus JAMIE is found looming through the market. As he is running ALBERT is briefly shown sitting outside of a shop, covered in dirt holding a worn out blanket. With his mind focused on catching the bus JAMIE is unaware that he ran past ALBERT, missing the chance to reunite with his brother.

THE USE OF SPECIAL EFFECTS SUCH AS FADES AND THE TITLING OF 24HRS LATER CREATE THE CUT FROM THE MARKET TO THE ROAD.

EXT. ROAD, AFTERNOON

The final phase of the montage shows Jamie walking home. He returns to the bench in which he is initially found sitting on in one of the prior scenes. Albert takes a seat again to recalculate his thoughts, thinking to give up on his quest for ALBERT, when JAMIE gets an unexpected viewing of Albert .is found rummaging through a bin in the mists. As JAMIE swiftly leaves the bench ALBERT is about to cross the road.

JAMIE

Excuse me?  Homeless Guy!
ALBERT!

Jamie shouts but fails to be heard. Jamie draws nearer to Albert and as he is about to cross he outreaches his arm tapping Albert on the shoulder. Albert stops and turns to face Jamie, unaware of an oncoming car and his positioning in the road.

CAR NOISES ARE HEARD IN THE BACKGROUND

As the car swiftly approaches Jamie is forced to throw himself at Albert, causing the two of them to land heavily on the curb, nonetheless saving Albert’s life. During their landing the dog tags fall out alighting side by side, finally revealing to Albert, what he considered to be a local rich guy, is actually his brother.

Elaborated Treatment

Elaborated Treatment

Jamie and Albert are two strangers who happen to collide in their local pawn shop. However as

simplistic as it seems a much deeper story lays in the mists of these two individuals and the mysterious

connection they share. Jamie, 34, is a rich man, interested in unusual antiques, hence the reason him

being in a pawn shop?! Albert on the other hand is not so fortunate. Thirty-nine, hungry and homeless

he finds himself in the pawn shop having to sell his most pride possession, his dog tags. As mentioned

before, during their visits to the pawn shop, the two of them experience an accidental encounter,

resulting in Albert dropping his dog tags. However rather than excusing himself and picking them up, the

estranged Albert anxiously rushes out the door. Jamie realises that Albert has left behind his dog tags

and goes to return them, but to his surprise Albert has already left the shop and is out of sight. Whilst

scanning the tags for any significant detail Jamie comes across an engraving reading ‘With all my love,

shop to find Albert. As evening occurs there is still no sighting of Albert, Jamie sets himself the task of

finding Albert as soon as possible, yet still going about his day to day life. Throughout the course of the

week Jamie finds himself in the same locations as Albert, still one way or another he manages to miss

him. As Jamie begins to lose all hope, his journey on his way home leads to an unexpected sighting of

Albert about to cross the road. Jamie shouts but fails to be heard. Jamie draws nearer to Albert and as

he is about to cross he outreaches his arm tapping Albert on the shoulder. Albert stops and turns to face

Final Idea - Treatment

As a group we all decided to use the "The Journey" as our final idea treatment to use in our short film.

The reason I chose "The Journey" is because I feel that the themes involved are important and unique. The main themes in this idea is separation, lost siblings, journey, togetherness and perseverance. I also find these themes inspiring and I potentially feel I could make a good impact short film out of this story.

Draft 4 -Treatment

Sharing

The fourth idea for my final treatment is called "Sharing"

"Sharing" is about a wealthy boy (aged 12) who meets a poor boy (aged 11), who both encounter a strong friendship despite the different background they are both from. Their friendship is expressed through the enjoyment of their company and sharing of items such as clothes, food and toys which they both love. The only conflict separating their friendship is the wealthy boys's parents who do not agree with the mixing of an inferior and "lesser" family.

This idea inspired me through watching a similar film called "The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas" which is based in Germany set in World War 2 about a forbidden friendship between a wealthy German boy and a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence. But through the risky communications of both boys starling and unexpected consequences follow.

Draft 3 - Treatment

The Charity

My third draft for my final story idea is called "Charity"

This idea is about a man who is suspicious that the money he is actually sending to charities that help his cause are in fact a scam. Through this paranoia of the man. he decides to investigate this situation.

This idea inspired me through the hearing of charity appeals and moving stories of innocent children being sick and homeless.

Draft 2 - Treatment

The Journey

My second draft for my treatment is called "The Journey"

This story idea is about an ordinary man who goes on what it seems a journey to search for a familiar person to give him a special item which could result to something precious and valuable between the two characters.

Draft 1 - Treatment

The dream

As a group we had 4 possible ideas that we wanted to be our final treatment and story for our film.

Our first idea was called "THE DREAM" which is about a young child's mother who constantly tells her one and only son to recycle. But because he is so arrogant and selfish he decides not to obey his mother and to keep on littering. Through his consequences one night he has a dream about all the potential risks of littering and not recycling, which makes him see sense and finally does the right thing.

The idea inspired me from local news stories such as Newsround and how severe environmental issues were in this country e.g. recycling, global warming, Animal habitation.

Thousands race in Great Scottish Run through Glasgow

Haile Gebrselassie

One of the world's top athletes joined thousands of people taking part in the Great Scottish Run.
About 23,000 club, fun and charity runners took part in the half-marathon and 10k events in Glasgow.
Ethiopian former Olympic and World champion Haile Gebrselassie won the half marathon event with a new course record of 61 minutes and nine seconds.
A number of roads were closed for the races, which started at George Square and finished at Glasgow Green.
Three Scots finished in the first four of the women's half marathon, with Leeds-based Susan Partridge beating Freya Ross to the line. Kenya's Pauline Wanjiku third and Steph Twell fourth.
Following his victory, Gebrselassie said: "After losing out in the last mile at the Bupa Great North Run I had to get clear today and decided to make my move when I did and it worked so well, I'm happy with this win."
Super Saturday
Scottish Finance Minister John Swinney was among those due to run the half marathon course.
World champion swimmer Keri-Anne Payne, Celtic manager Neil Lennon and Emmerdale stars Chris Chittell and Eden Taylor Draper were due to run in the 10k.

Start of the half marathon

The reason i have chose this type of research for my story is because it is related to themes of my story. i have interpreted the meaning of journey in a different style. i have not used the ordinary interpretation of a person going through an emotional journey which leads him to be a better person, but instead i have researched about a marathon run that takes place in Scotland, Glasgow which is supposed to be a fun charity run that not just marathon runners have participated but also celebrities and amateur runners which shows a remarkable journey between the start and finish line.

Articles/Stories - Research on List Siblings

Coastguards today called off a £10,000 search for two boys who were thought to have gone missing from a popular tourist beach.
A three-hour search for the youngsters, aged six and eight, who were reported missing after they were last seen on the seafront at Ryde on the Isle of Wight this lunchtime, was later stood down.
The Marine and Coastguard Agency said on Twitter at 4.25pm: ‘We've searched the sea and shore and we now don't think there are two kids in danger.’

Coastguard rescue team, helicopter and lifeboat were all involved in the search. Hampshire Constabulary said it was triggered when the force was alerted at 1.21pm by Solent Coastguard.
The boys were apparently last seen near Appley Tower. The six-year-old boy was said to have dark brown hair, pale skin, dark brown eyes and the eight-year-old had a mole on his left shoulder.

'When we were told about the missing children it was awful. You always assume the worst and being a mother, I felt sick'
Sarah Thornton, beachgoer
‘Police deployed officers and staff to check nearby public places, tourist attractions and hotels. Details of the boys were circulated to public transport operators and Solent ferry

'We've searched the sea and shore and we now don't think there are two kids in danger'

This research is important to our group because the theme is linked to our story. it is also important because it gives our story a sense of direction and how to conduct our story into a real life situation. i have researched this specific topic about a "missing boy" because it is related to our main theme about lost siblings.

Pockets - Short Film

“Pockets” – Short Film

The set up of the film “Pockets is about a poor man at the end of his rope, unable to provide or the woman he loves. As a result he decides to rob a stranger in order to get a good meal.

The reason I chose this particular film is because of theunique and clever storyline. I liked the fact that the creator of this film has turned a real life situation such as theft/robbing and has turned it into a unique and ironic situation.
In the opening scene of“Pockets it opens with an explosive non diagetic sound with the film titles in bold white capital letters appearing. I found this technique interesting because it grips the audience straight away because of the unexpected powerful sound. There is also an off-screen voiceover of the troubled man communicating about his problems suggesting he is directly trying to communicate with the audience. This is a unique technique because it has used a variety of communication skills instead of just the man speaking to himself. A quirky element of the film which I found interesting is the scene where the troubled man is about rob another man who is a complete stranger in order to eat well. The real quirkiness of the scene is that he threatens and also searches him with a sharp knife, so as he invades the victim’s pockets he finds himself mysteriously entering his own pocket which I found very “quirky and anxious. A non diagetic soft tune quickly plays to signify something out of this world”has occurred.

This technique is very creative and clever because this situation would not happen in real life and has creatively turned a serious real situation into an “ironic” and mysterious turn of events. I also admire the fact the film title plays an important role in the film, the camera use in the film is effective especially when the victim attempts to punch the troubled man and as he approaches him a freeze fast paced camera motion happens. This camera technique is very effective because it used to show the intense scene between the two characters. I also found the way the cut-away scenes were presented, the type of cut-away shots have been used as a “blend” and “continuous” Example of this in the film is when the victim opens his coat in an emerged and powerful way then simultaneously the camera transfers to the troubled man eagerly running from him. I also liked the fight scene between the two characters because it wasn't fought in the clichéd type of way, instead it was two rivals fighting each other using their“pockets” which again emphasises the quirkiness and powerfulness pockets can be. I admire the fact that simple unnoticed things such as pockets can be a protagonist and can play an important role in a fantasy human life. Another quirky and interesting moment in the film is when the victim is threatening a woman with a sharp knife without him being in contact with her. I find this technique ambitious because it is unique and really grips the audience to find out how that shot has been made. The close ups used are very precise and intense, example of this is when the victim has found out that he has eaten heat pockets which could potentially kill him, therefore a quick cut into his face show his emotions due to the consequences. This film ends in the same explosive non diagetic sound it opened with, this shows consistency and creativeness and that the creator has put thought to this film.
